Group transfers in Rio de Janeiro

We arrange group transfers between Rio's two airports, Galeão (GIG) and Santos Dumont (SDU), the cruise terminal at Píer Mauá, hotels, and day-trip destinations such as Búzios, Angra dos Reis and Paraty. A driver meets the group with a name sign, and the vehicles and their capacity are confirmed in the proposal.

Where we pick up and drop off

Place What to know
Galeão International Airport (GIG) Rio’s international airport, officially Aeroporto Internacional Antônio Carlos Jobim. Aena took over its management on October 6, 2026. The cruise terminal operator lists it at 16 km from Píer Mauá, about 25 minutes without traffic.
Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) The airport in central Rio, 2 km from Píer Mauá, with a direct VLT (light rail) connection.
Cruise terminal Terminal Internacional de Cruzeiros do Rio de Janeiro at Píer Mauá, Avenida Rodrigues Alves 10, Praça Mauá, in the Porto Maravilha port area. It has two VLT stops: Parada dos Museus and Parada dos Navios.
Hotels Any hotel or rental in the city, and transfers between hotels when a group changes neighborhoods.
Other cities Búzios, Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande, Paraty and other destinations on request.

Day trips and transfers out of Rio

  • Búzios, on the coast east of Rio: a transfer straight from Galeão is possible, without going into the city first.
  • Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande: a road transfer to the pier, then a boat to the island. Since June 1, 2026, Angra dos Reis charges visitors a tourism fee that also covers the islands, and every visitor registers on the city’s Viva Angra system. The amount depends on how long the group stays, so we check it for your dates.
  • Paraty, further along the same coast, often combined with Ilha Grande in one trip.

Driving times depend on the route and on traffic, so the proposal gives them for your dates.

Vehicles

Vehicle Typical use
Sedan Tour leaders, VIP guests, couples
Minivan Small groups and families with luggage
Minibus (micro-ônibus) Mid-size groups
Coach Large groups; several coaches for the biggest groups

Seats and luggage space differ from one vehicle to another, so the proposal confirms the capacity of each vehicle. If the group carries bulky items such as golf bags, surfboards or instruments, tell us in the request.

Meet and greet

At the airport, the driver or a representative of our provider waits in the arrivals area with a sign showing the name of the group or your agency. At the cruise terminal, we agree the meeting point with you in advance. You receive the driver’s or the transport company’s contact details after you confirm the booking, and our team stays your contact during the transfer.

For groups arriving on several flights, we split the arrivals into separate transfers by flight time. Departures work the same way: we set pickup times at the hotel from each flight’s departure time.

Road closures on New Year’s Eve and during Carnival

The city closes roads for both events. The 2026/27 and 2027 plans have not been published yet; last time, the rules were as follows.

New Year’s Eve 2025/26 (city plan published on December 26, 2025):

  • from 00:00 on December 31, charter buses, minibuses and vans could not enter or park in Copacabana and Leme;
  • Avenida Atlântica was closed along its whole length from 07:00;
  • from 19:00 only regular buses and taxis could enter Copacabana, and ride-hailing cars were kept out;
  • from 21:00 every vehicle access to Copacabana was closed;
  • access reopened from 05:00 on January 1, with part of Avenida Atlântica still closed.

Carnival 2026 (traffic plan published by CET-Rio on February 5, 2026): central lanes of Avenida Presidente Vargas and nearby streets around the Sambadrome were closed on parade days, parking was banned around the venue from 06:00 on February 13 to 10:00 on February 18, and there was no dedicated event parking.

For these nights we plan drop-off and pickup points outside the closed area, with a guide walking the group in and out, and we update the plan when the city publishes the new rules.

Frequently asked questions

What vehicles do you use for groups?

Sedans, minivans, minibuses and coaches, depending on the size of the group and the luggage. We confirm the exact capacity of each vehicle, luggage space included, in the proposal.

Do you pick up at the cruise terminal?

Yes, at the Terminal Internacional de Cruzeiros do Rio de Janeiro at Píer Mauá, Avenida Rodrigues Alves 10. Send us the ship's name and its arrival and departure times.

Can you meet guests who arrive on different flights?

Yes. We group the arrivals into several transfers by flight time, so early arrivals do not wait for the last flight.

What happens if a flight is delayed?

The waiting conditions for delayed flights are written into the proposal. Send us the flight numbers with your request so we can plan around them.

Can we cancel a transfer?

A single transfer can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before the service; after that, our deposit is not refunded. For group programs, cancellation terms are set out in the proposal.

Tell us about your trip or group. Proposal within 24 hours.

We reply from 8:00 to 20:00 Rio de Janeiro time (UTC-3). You can write at any time.
