How to build a Brazil itinerary for 2 weeks
Brazil is large, and most of a two-week trip is decided by how many flights you take. Our rule of thumb: 4 to 5 days in Rio with one spare day for weather, two full days at Iguazu, three or four days in the next region, and a travel day for every domestic flight. Two regions beyond Rio fit in 14 or 15 days. With 10 days, pick one.
For the Rio part on its own, see our Rio itinerary with day plans for 3 to 5 days.
Route A: Rio, Iguazu Falls and Salvador (14-15 days)
This route adds the falls and the old colonial capital to Rio. Salvador was the first capital of Portuguese America from 1549 to 1763, and its historic centre, with the Pelourinho district, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1985.
| Day | Where | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rio | Arrival, private transfer, evening on the Copacabana seafront |
| 2 | Rio | Christ the Redeemer on a clear morning, Santa Teresa, Sugarloaf in the afternoon |
| 3 | Rio | Ipanema and Arpoador at sunset |
| 4 | Rio | Spare day for weather, or a day trip |
| 5 | Rio to Salvador | Domestic flight, transfer to your hotel |
| 6 | Salvador | Pelourinho and the historic centre with a private guide |
| 7 | Salvador | Second city day built around your interests: food, music, churches |
| 8 | Salvador | Beach or a coastal day out |
| 9 | Salvador to Iguazu | Domestic flight (usually with a connection) |
| 10 | Iguazu | Brazilian side of the falls |
| 11 | Iguazu | Argentine side, a full day |
| 12 | Iguazu to Rio | Domestic flight |
| 13-14 | Rio | Beach, what you missed, flight home |
Route B: Rio, Iguazu Falls and the Amazon (14-15 days)
For travelers who want rainforest and river life after the city. We base the Amazon part in Manaus and a jungle lodge, and the program changes with the river level, which shifts through the year. We check conditions for your dates.
| Day | Where | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| 1-4 | Rio | Same as Route A: Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf, beaches, a spare day |
| 5 | Rio to Iguazu | Domestic flight; Brazilian side in the afternoon if you land early |
| 6 | Iguazu | Argentine side, a full day |
| 7 | Iguazu to Manaus | Domestic flight with a connection |
| 8 | Manaus | City, then transfer to a lodge on the river |
| 9-11 | Amazon | Three days with a local guide: canoe trips, forest walks, river communities |
| 12 | Manaus to Rio | Domestic flight |
| 13-14 | Rio | Last days by the sea, flight home |
Route C: Rio with the Pantanal or Lençóis Maranhenses (10-14 days)
Two UNESCO natural sites, pick one. The Pantanal, in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, is part of one of the world’s largest freshwater wetland ecosystems. Lençóis Maranhenses, in Maranhão, is a field of dunes with lagoons filled only by rainwater.
| Day | Where | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| 1-4 | Rio | City, beaches and one spare day |
| 5 | Rio to Pantanal or Lençóis | Domestic flight, road transfer to the lodge or the village by the park |
| 6-8 | Pantanal or Lençóis | Three full days with a local guide |
| 9 | Back to Rio | Domestic flight |
| 10 | Rio | Flight home, or continue below |
| 11-13 | Iguazu (optional) | Domestic flights there and back, both sides of the falls |
| 14 | Rio | Flight home |
For 10 days, stop after day 10. For 14, add Iguazu at the end.
Best season by region
| Region | What to plan for |
|---|---|
| Rio | December to March is warmer (average daytime highs 28.6-30.2 °C); June to August around 25 °C, and August has the least rain. The south-east rainy season runs from November to March |
| Salvador | The north-east rainy season runs from April to July |
| Pantanal | From October to April the rivers overflow and flood large areas |
| Lençóis Maranhenses | The lagoons reach their highest level in the rainy season and disappear in the dry season |
| Iguazu | Open every day of the year; we plan your visit day around the weather |
Heavy rain can happen outside these seasons too, so we keep a spare day in Rio and order the regions to suit your dates.
Practical notes on Iguazu Falls
- Tickets for the Brazilian park are sold online only, for a set day and entry time. We tell you which slot fits your flight.
- The Brazilian park opens at 9:00 on weekdays and 8:30 at weekends; the last entry slot is 16:00 and the park closes at 17:30. The classic walk takes about two hours.
- Visiting the Argentine side: check entry requirements on official websites.
Traveling as a group of 10 or more? We have a ready group program for Rio and Iguazu.
What we organise
We do not sell air tickets. We plan domestic flights around the schedule, you book them, and we arrange everything on the ground:
- a private guide who speaks your language in each city;
- airport pickups and transfers between hotels, parks and lodges, starting with your Rio airport transfer;
- receptive partners we have vetted in Salvador, Iguazu, Manaus, the Pantanal and Lençóis;
- hotels and lodges matched to your budget and travel style;
- one contact for the whole trip, in English, Spanish or Portuguese, before you fly and while you are in Brazil.
Our fee is already included in the price. Terms and payment are set out in the proposal; you pay nothing before you confirm. Planning a honeymoon or traveling with children? See our pages on a Brazil honeymoon and a family trip to Rio, or read how we work.

Frequently asked questions
Is 2 weeks enough for Brazil?
Two weeks is enough for Rio and two other regions, such as Iguazu Falls and Salvador. With 10 days we suggest Rio and one region, plus Iguazu if you keep the pace steady.
How do you get between Rio, Iguazu, Salvador and Manaus?
By domestic flight. Distances in Brazil are long, so we plan one travel day for each flight and match transfers and guides to your flight times. You buy the air tickets; we plan everything on the ground.
When is the best time for a two-week trip to Brazil?
It depends on the route. In Rio and the south-east the rainy season runs from November to March, in the north-east from April to July, and in the Pantanal the rivers flood between October and April, so we choose the order of regions for your dates.
Can we see the Argentine side of Iguazu Falls?
Yes, many travelers spend one day there. Check entry requirements for Argentina on official websites before the trip, and carry the documents they ask for.
Can we cancel a multi-day trip?
Yes. A multi-day trip can be cancelled free of charge up to 14 days before it starts. If a provider cannot deliver, we find a replacement or refund the deposit in full.
