This plan follows the order we use most for a short stay: arrive and settle, the two big landmarks on one day, a day for beaches and green space, then the centre before you fly. Hotels in Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon keep every stop within easy reach by car.

Day by day

Day 1: arrival and the beach

A driver meets you in arrivals at Galeão or Santos Dumont and takes you to your hotel. After check-in, keep it easy: a walk on the Copacabana or Ipanema promenade, a coconut at a beach kiosk and dinner near the hotel. If your flight lands early, the afternoon can go to Arpoador, the rock between Ipanema and Copacabana, for sunset.

Day 2: Christ the Redeemer, Santa Teresa and Sugarloaf

The big day. In the morning you go up Corcovado by train from Cosme Velho or by official van. The train runs from 8:00 to 18:00, every 20 minutes, and you check in at least 40 minutes before your slot. Until about the end of May 2027 the escalators at the monument are being replaced, so fewer visitors are allowed at the top at once and everyone walks the last 80 steps.

After lunch, the tram climbs to Santa Teresa from Carioca station, and you walk down the Selarón Steps into Lapa. The Chilean artist Jorge Selarón started tiling them in 1990. End the day on the Sugarloaf cable car from Urca: the last car up leaves at 19:30, per the park’s help center, so sunset fits most of the year. See the Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf tour for how we book both.

Day 3: Botanical Garden, Lagoa and Ipanema

A slower day. The Botanical Garden opens at 8:00 and closes at 17:00 (on Wednesday it opens at 11:00). From there it is a short drive to the lagoon, Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, and on to Ipanema for the afternoon. In the evening, dinner in Leblon or Ipanema. If clouds covered Corcovado or Sugarloaf on day 2, this is the day we go back.

Day 4: the centre and departure

Morning at the Museu do Amanhã on Praça Mauá, open 10:00 to 18:00 and closed on Wednesday. Then the Theatro Municipal and a walk through the historic centre, with lunch nearby. The driver collects your bags and takes you to the airport in time for your flight. With an evening flight, Lapa is close for an early dinner first.

How to adapt it

What we arrange

  • Airport transfers on arrival and departure.
  • A car and driver for the touring days, sized for your party and luggage.
  • A guide who speaks your language for the days where one helps, confirmed in the proposal.
  • A selection of hotels in the area and at the level you want.
  • Train, van and cable car tickets planned for your dates and time slots.
  • A weather check the day before, so the viewpoints land on a clear day.

Our fee is already included in the price. A vetted local provider delivers each service, and one person on our team stays your contact from the first message to the flight home. More in how we work.

Good to know

  • The UK FCDO says the rainy season in Rio runs from November to March, and heavy rain can happen in other months too. In heavy rain we move outings by road.
  • Museu do Amanhã is closed on Wednesday, and the Botanical Garden opens late that day, so we avoid Wednesday for day 3 and day 4.
  • The Santa Teresa tram runs on weekdays 8:00 to 18:30 and on weekends and holidays 9:00 to 17:00.
  • Hours change with the season and for events. We check every slot for your dates before the proposal.

Check entry requirements on official websites before you travel.

Frequently asked questions

Is four days enough for Rio?

For a first visit, yes. Three days cover the landmarks, and the fourth gives you room for a cloudy morning on Corcovado or a slower beach day.

Why is Christ the Redeemer in the morning and Sugarloaf at the end of the day?

Corcovado is usually planned for the morning, and Sugarloaf works well for sunset: per the park's help center, the last car up leaves at 19:30. We check the hours for your date.

Can we do this trip with children?

Yes. We shorten the days, add child seats to the car and keep the afternoons for the beach or the Botanical Garden.

Can we add a day outside Rio?

Yes. A fifth day fits a day trip to Petrópolis, Búzios or Arraial do Cabo. Ilha Grande and Paraty work better with a night there.

Do we pay anything before we confirm?

No. Terms and payment are set out in the proposal, and you pay nothing before you confirm.

Tell us about your trip or group. Proposal within 24 hours.
