Private experiences
Marriage proposals in Rio de Janeiro
In Rio de Janeiro you can propose on a private yacht at sunset, during a helicopter flight over the city, at a viewpoint such as Sugarloaf or Arpoador, or over a private dinner. We book the boat, the flight or the table, add a photographer on request and plan the timing so it stays a surprise. Send us your date and your idea, and you get a priced proposal from us within 24 hours.

Four ways to propose in Rio
On a yacht at sunset
A private yacht or motorboat with a skipper, for the two of you, crossing Guanabara Bay below Sugarloaf or sailing along Copacabana and Ipanema at sunset. Flowers, drinks, dinner or a photographer can come on board. Our proposal sets out the route, the pier and the time on board.
We check the boat’s Navy registration (the TIE), the skipper’s Navy licence and life jackets for everyone, as the Navy’s safety campaign asks. More in yacht charter in Rio.
On a helicopter flight
The aircraft is for your party only. Under ANAC rules, a panoramic flight takes off and lands at the same point and flies only in visual weather conditions. We book operators that ANAC, Brazil’s civil aviation agency, has certified for panoramic flights, look up the aircraft in its public register (RAB Online) and check for the “VOO PANORÂMICO” marking. Our proposal lists the route, flight time and seats, so you know if a photographer fits. See helicopter flights over Rio.
At a viewpoint
These are public places shared with other visitors; we do not arrange private access.
| Place | Access rules |
|---|---|
| Sugarloaf | Last cable car up at 18:30-19:30; the park’s own pages differ, so we check on the day. The “Amanhecer” ticket takes you up for sunrise before the park opens to the public, with a saxophonist and breakfast; buy it by 17:30 the day before. Commercial photography needs the park’s prior authorization; drones and tripods are banned. |
| Christ the Redeemer | Open while the escalators are replaced, until about the end of May 2027, with half the usual number of visitors at the top and the last 80 steps on foot. The platform opens after the morning blessing at 7:30-8:00. External events needing ICMBio authorization are suspended at the top during the works. |
| Mirante Dona Marta | 360 m up in Tijuca National Park, over Sugarloaf, Guanabara Bay, Corcovado and the Maracanã. Open daily 8:00-17:00, so plan a daytime moment. |
| Arpoador | Riotur, the city’s tourism office, calls these rocks between the Copacabana Fort and Ipanema the most beautiful spot to watch the sea and the sunset. |
In Tijuca National Park, photos during opening hours in areas open to visitors need no authorization if they do not disrupt the visit; a shoot outside those hours needs a free special authorization. Temporary structures or a set make it an event, which ICMBio must authorize: apply at least 100 days ahead, and a fee may apply. In the city’s public places, a small photo session needs no events permit if it blocks no traffic or pedestrians, sets up no equipment and seats no spectators.
Over a private dinner
A terrace table at sunset, a private room, or a private chef at your villa or on the yacht. We reconfirm the table the day before and agree with the restaurant when the flowers or dessert come out. See VIP concierge in Rio.
A photographer for the moment
On request we book a photographer or videographer, and our proposal confirms who shoots, for how long and in which language. You agree the spot and your signal in advance; the photographer arrives early and stays out of sight until you give it. A short couple shoot after the yes can go into the plan.
Keeping it a surprise
- Only you deal with us, and every provider knows it is a surprise.
- We agree a cover story with you, such as a sunset boat trip or a dinner booking.
- We write the timeline, from pickup to dinner, and share it with each provider.
Rain, clouds and the best time
Alerta Rio, the city’s weather service, names June to August as the driest months, August most of all. It counts November to April as the rainy season, with January the wettest month and the most rain on high ground, above all the Tijuca massif.
- The Sugarloaf cable car runs in the rain, but strong wind or lightning can pause it, and the park can cancel the sunrise experience for weather.
- At Christ the Redeemer, the official van operator says the weather can change during the day and affect visibility, and that the late afternoon light suits photos.
- Helicopter panoramic flights need visual weather conditions.
We agree the backup in advance; keep a second date free rather than your last day in Rio. If the weather rules out the plan, we move it or refund our deposit in full.
What we need from you
- Your date, and how flexible it is.
- How many people, including anyone joining to celebrate.
- Your budget level.
- Your preferences: sea, air, a viewpoint or dinner; sunrise, daytime or sunset; photos or video.
- Anything to plan around, such as seasickness or stairs.
How booking works
A person from our team replies the same working day (8:00-20:00 Rio time), and our priced proposal follows within 24 hours. You pay our deposit to book and the rest to the provider, whose details you get after you confirm. For New Year’s Eve and Carnival dates, our deposit is non-refundable once you confirm.
Friends and family flying in? We book their transfers and rooms too. Group bookings start from about 10 people; groups of 50 and more are handled together with a large local receptive partner, with one contact on our team. Terms and payment are set out in the proposal; you pay nothing before you confirm.
Write to us with your date and your idea; our team works with you in English or Portuguese.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a marriage proposal in Rio cost?
It depends on the format, the time on the boat or in the air, and extras such as a photographer, flowers or dinner. The price comes in our proposal within 24 hours, and you pay nothing before you confirm.
Can the proposal stay a surprise?
Yes. Only you deal with us, and we agree the timing and a signal with the photographer, who stays out of sight until the moment.
What if it rains or the clouds come in?
We agree a backup in advance: a covered place, another time of day or a second date. If the weather rules out the plan, we move it or refund our deposit in full.
Can I propose at Christ the Redeemer?
Yes, during public visiting hours and among other visitors; we cannot arrange private access. Until about the end of May 2027 the escalators are being replaced, only half the usual number of visitors may be at the top at once, and the last 80 steps are on foot.
Can a drone film the moment?
We do not promise drone footage. Drones are banned at Sugarloaf and during visiting hours at Christ the Redeemer, and anywhere else we check the rules for your place and date.
Can we cancel or change the date?
Yes. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before; after that, the deposit is not refunded. You can move the date once for free with 48 hours' notice if the provider has another date.
