The UK FCDO notes that forest fires are common from May to September, especially in July and August, during the dry season.

Rio de Janeiro in July

July is one of Rio’s driest months, with 56.4 mm of rain on average. Days near 25 °C suit walking tours, Tijuca Forest trails and viewpoints, and the sky is often clear for the view from Sugarloaf Mountain. Beach days happen, though the water feels cool to many visitors and evenings are fresh.

The humpback whale season off Rio runs from June to August, according to Visit Rio: see whale watching in Rio. Detail by month for the city: Rio weather.

Where to go in Brazil in July

The Pantanal is at its driest. Cuiabá averages 9.6 mm of rain and 2 rain days in July, and ICMBio names May to September as the best period to visit. Mornings start cool (16.6 °C on average), so a jacket helps on early boat trips. See our Pantanal guide.

In the Lençóis Maranhenses, Embratur places the best lagoon months between June and September: Lençóis Maranhenses. Fortaleza, on the way north, drops to 91.4 mm in July from 160 mm in June.

On Fernando de Noronha, the island administration describes May to July as the calm-sea period on the inner-sea beaches: Fernando de Noronha.

The Amazon is still in high water. ICMBio’s Anavilhanas guide says the flood season runs from March to August, with boat trails through igapó forest: Amazon guide.

For beach time on the eastern Northeast coast, July is still wet. FCDO places the Northeast rainy season from April to July, and Recife averages 25 rain days. A trip to Salvador works better for its historic center than for the beach this month. In São Paulo, cool dry days are good for museums and food: São Paulo.

How we help you plan the month

We are Vela Brasil, a small team that plans private trips around Brazil for couples, families and friends. You tell us the dates and what you want from the trip, and we match each leg to the season: Rio first, then a region where the weather works that month. We find a guide who speaks your language, book a private driver for airport runs and day trips, and stay your single contact during the trip. For a longer route, see our two-week Brazil itinerary.

Terms and payment are set out in the proposal; you pay nothing before you confirm. Tours, transfers and boat trips can be cancelled at no cost up to 48 hours before, multi-day tours up to 14 days before. Price on request, proposal within 24 hours.
