Rio de Janeiro in June
Rio is pleasant for sightseeing in June. Days stay around 25 °C and rain is light, so walking the center, going up to Christ the Redeemer or taking the cable car to Sugarloaf Mountain is comfortable. Not every day is warm enough for the beach, and evenings call for a jacket.
Visit Rio, the city’s tourism bureau, says humpback whales pass Rio between June and August. If you want to try, see whale watching in Rio.
Where to go in Brazil in June
The Pantanal is the strongest choice for nature. Cuiabá, the gateway to the northern Pantanal, averages 15.9 mm of rain and 3 rain days in June, and ICMBio names May to September as the best time to visit because it rains less. Nights are cool, around 17.5 °C on average. More in our Pantanal guide.
The Lençóis Maranhenses is another. Embratur says the lagoons between the dunes are fullest from June to September. See Lençóis Maranhenses.
On Fernando de Noronha, the island administration calls May to July the calm period on the inner-sea beaches, good for children. See Fernando de Noronha.
In the Amazon, June is high-water season. ICMBio’s Anavilhanas guide puts the flood season from March to August, when boat trails through flooded igapó forest are the highlight; the white sand beaches only appear in the dry season, from September. More in our Amazon guide.
Be careful with the eastern Northeast if your plan is the beach. The UK FCDO gives April to July as the rainy season in the Northeast, and Salvador averages 23 rain days in June. The historic center of Salvador still works for culture.

How we help you plan the month
We are Vela Brasil, a small team that plans private trips around Brazil for couples, families and friends.
