The UK Foreign Office notes that the rainy season in the south and south-east, Rio included, runs from November to March, and in the northeast from April to July. It also advises following official warnings and avoiding road travel during heavy rain, which is good practice in any month.
Rio de Janeiro in October
October in Rio is warm and fairly settled: 26 °C on an average afternoon, 20.2 °C at night and about 10 days with some rain. The beaches are usable, and the city is between the winter season and the summer rush that starts in December. For a first visit we usually plan Sugarloaf and Corcovado for clear mornings and leave one day of the plan open in case the summit is in cloud.
More detail on each month in the city is on our Rio weather page, and our Rio itinerary shows how we split three to five days.
Holidays and events in October
12 October is the day of Nossa Senhora Aparecida, the patroness of Brazil, a national holiday under Law 6.802 of 1980. In 2027 it falls on a Tuesday, and many people take the Monday off as well, so domestic flights and beach towns near the big cities fill up that weekend. If your dates include it, tell us early.
Beyond that holiday we have not found officially announced dates for big festivals in October 2027, so we do not list any here. The next large event is just after the month ends: the São Paulo Formula 1 Grand Prix, which in 2026 runs on 6-8 November at Interlagos according to Formula 1. The 2027 date will go on our page once Formula 1 publishes it.
